Rwanda is the standout success story of East Africa, a central hub of the East Africa Community, a Common Market for 160 million people.

 

Held 27-31 March 2017, this Trade Mission was the first of its kind to Rwanda by Australian Businesses and Universities, and provided an exceptional opportunity to gain privileged access to Ministers and business leaders.

Program Highlights

BRIEFINGS BY MINISTERS AND SENIOR OFFICIALS

A highlight of the comprehensive program of meetings and briefings was a meeting with the President, H.E. Paul Kagame. Attendees also had an opportunity to meet with 10 cabinet ministers including the Minister of Infrastructure and the Minister of Finance.

 

UNIVERSITIES AND RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS

Businesses and Australian Universities were able to engage with leading Rwandan researchers and academics, laying the foundations for long-term partnerships between Australia and Rwanda in the areas of agriculture, energy, environment and tropical issues. Attendees were able to receive briefings from the leadership of the University of Rwanda, as well as from the heads of the World Bank-funded Centres of Excellence in Sustainable Development, Internet of Things, Teaching and Learning Mathematics and Science, and Data Science.

 

SITE VISITS

To ensure all attendees were able to fully understand the thriving private sector in Rwanda, the program incorporated site visits to private enterprises on the cutting edge of innovation in Africa and the world. Delegates also visited Kigali’s Special Economic Zone as well as its main tourist attraction, volcano national park and its resident gorilla population.

 

B2B MEETINGS

A bespoke program was arranged for delegation members in addition to the main program, enabling them to meet businesses of particular interest to them.
