New challenges for Australia's education sector

A strategic response to the challenges for Australia’s education sector

Discussion with Professor Brian Schmidt AC FAA FRS Vice-Chancellor and President – Australian National University

Friday 19th February, 2021 – 1pm – 2pm AEDT

Nobel Laureate and one of Australia’s most renowned Vice-Chancellors will share his thinking and engage in discussion on some of the scenarios he has been exploring for the future of education.

The Australian education sector had been helping power the Australian economy, being our third largest export until the pandemic struck in 2020 and forced a major rethink. But there are also broader issues about the nature and role of tertiary education.

This crucial and wide-ranging discussion will explore the education, as well as research and innovation roles of the sector in Australia today as well as into the future. Critical factors and trends such as system design and policy, digitisation, STEM vs STEAM, international students, R&D policy and geopolitical considerations, as well as connections with industry, will also be explored.

Join this conversation, which will help shape the expectations for the business sector as well as our national policy aspirations.
